1. What is the difference between a cashless and a reimbursement claim?
A: In a cashless claim, you visit a hospital from the insurance provider's network. The insurer directly settles the medical bill with the hospital, so you don't have to pay out of your own pocket. For a reimbursement claim, you pay the hospital bill yourself and then submit all the original bills, reports, and a completed claim form to the insurance company after returning to India to get reimbursed.
2. Is there a medical check-up required to buy a travel insurance policy?
A: For most policies and travelers up to a certain age (often 70 or 85 years), a medical check-up is not required. However, if you are a senior citizen or have declared a pre-existing medical condition, the insurer may ask for specific medical reports to approve the policy.
3. Does the policy cover pre-existing diseases (PEDs)?
A: Generally, travel insurance policies do not cover pre-existing diseases. However, a crucial and common exception is that they do provide coverage for an emergency, life-threatening situation that arises directly from a pre-existing condition. This is an important distinction to provide peace of mind in a severe crisis.
4. Can I extend my travel insurance policy while I am still abroad?
A: Yes, in most cases, you can extend your policy. You must submit a request for an extension before the original policy expires. The extension is subject to approval from the underwriter and usually requires a declaration of good health. The total duration of the trip, including the extension, may not exceed the maximum limit specified by the insurer.
